Our little girl is here! She is utterly perfect and beautiful. Adam and I are so in love with this perfect little creature!
We went to the hospital around 2am on Thursday morning. Josh had been at the house for dinner and a movie. I had not felt well all day and asked him to take my blood pressure. It was high several times...most of which I had been resting on the couch for hours at a time. So, we decided to go ahead to labor and delivery to be checked out...my blood pressure, that is. After sitting all night long waiting for lab results, we were told that I was fine (all labs were okay, liver enzymes okay, no protein in my urine...). Dr. C saw us around 8am and told us that we were being moved to another room so she could induce me. We were so excited...and really nervous at the same time!
She broke my water around 9:15am and I was 4cm dilated at that time. I wanted an epidural, but was so nervous about the procedure, that I opted to wait as long as possible. After 3 or 4 hours, several TERRIBLE contractions, and too many meds (I was snowed under 5mg of morphine, 12.5mg of Phenergan, and a dose of IV Apresoline for my b/p) I caved. I have never been so grateful and comfortable in all of my life. I finally got some sleep (since we didn't the night before) and was turned from side to side every 1 1/2 hours or so). Frankly, I labored so comfortably and pain free after the epidural, that I couldn't believe I was completely dilated and ready to push by 4:30 pm!
I didn't start pushing until shortly after 5:00pm. The nurse waited until I could at least feel pressure. I didn't feel ANY contractions after the epidural...only pressure sensations during the last few minutes. So, after only 23 minutes (ish) of pushing, Claire was born kicking and screaming!
My blood pressure improved greatly with the epidural. But, I shot right back up after the epidural was discontinued. We were to go home yesterday around 6:00pm, but they checked my blood pressure and found it to be 191/100. So, we had a dose of Labetalol and they checked me again one hour later. The problem is that it barely came down..so after much checking, teaching, and pleading...Dr C allowed us to go home with a prescription for Labetalol. Josh stayed last night and periodically checked my blood pressure. It has been improving since, but is still a bit high. Mom is beginning to feel like a human again.
Claire Madeline is an awesome baby! She barely cries...only when she's hungry or wet. We've really enjoyed being parents to this sweet little girl! She eats like a pig and manages to amaze us at all turns. Today we had our first bath since the nursery bath and didn't totally freak out! She's perfect!
